My portfolio consists largely of US and Chinese technology shares plus some New Zealand companies. The US technology companies include Alphabet, Microsoft, Facebook and Apple, and the Chinese companies are Tencent, Alibaba and Baibu. I have owned Microsoft and Alphabet since around 2014, and added Facebook, Apple, Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent in 2017. NZ / Australian stocks that I own include Xero, ERoad and Vista.
As I am sure you are aware, US and Chinese technology stocks have performed well over the past few years. I have been concerned at the high valuations of the markets and associated risks out there, so taken the step to sell 40% of my US / Chinese technology holdings and use these funds to pay down mortgage debt. I have retained the New Zealand / Australian shares.
My view still remains that technology stocks will continue to perform over the medium / long term, however the market will no doubt become increasingly volatile in the near term.
I am also a member of an AMP defined benefit superannuation plan which is my “safe” retirement funds.
